I was born in a suburb of Tokyo in 1973, the era of relative peace and stability in Japan albeit the oil shock in that same year, and was raised by a woman who was passionate about music, that was my mother. Because of this, I was able to reach educations and opportunities that might be unimaginable in other time-space realities. Having started piano at the age of 4, I was later guided to do composition and was able to study at TOHO Gakuen School of Music (BMus 1995). Between 1987 to 1997, thanks to many British and European theatre directors who presented works in Tokyo, I was completely hooked in the theatre, alongside the music I continued.
In 1999, due to a scholarship granted from Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, I obtained Masters Degree there in 2000 (MMus). During those student years, I was in the finalists in the British Double Bass forum competition, and the Guildhall School awarded me two prizes. Several notable people mysteriously came into my life at that time and became colleagues, and I was led to be doing creation of operas.
I was one of the creative teams in residence at OperaGenesis at Royal Opera House, London from 2006 to 2009, where I was able to develop 2 operas. In 2009, I was also commissioned for the Royal Ballet’s new works programme, held at the Linbury Studio Theatre ROH. I was accepted to participate in a masterclass for opera composition held by Peter Eotvos in Budapest in 2013.
And in 2014, I started something I never thought I would do, that is acousmatic music composition. I am very pleased with this.Since then, I have participated in various concerts and festivals such as concert acousmatique 1 & rencontre acousmatique at CRANE lab, France, ‘Géophonèmes’ in Lyon and Loupian, France, Audioblast Festival by APO33, Nantes, France 2015 and 2017, FILE Electric Language International Festival 2015 and 2016 in Brazil among others.
